Pearl barley is a grain that has a nutty flavour and retains a slightly chewy texture when cooked.

  • 2 cups of pearl barley
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • cinnamon to taste
  • honey or alternative sweeter to taste

The best part of this recipe is you can make it up in bulk and serve it up over the week.

Add pearl barley in a pot pour in the water. Boil and then simmer for 30 mins stirring occasionally and keep topping with more water if the pot looks too dry. Add milk once the barley has softened. Continuing to simmer for 10 more minutes.  Add cinnamon, sweetener and more milk depending on how runny and sweet you like.

For alternatives add berries, stewed apples or masked bananas.
